Harvest Party Cookies

Image
Well hello there!  It's been a while.  Again.  Sorry about that. Anywhoo, it's Harvest Party season.  We have two kids in school this year, so I got to make cookies for two classes instead of one.  WooHoo! Actually, it wasn't so bad. The boy's class has six kids.  You heard me. Six. Kids. And because the class is so small, I decided to go a little crazy.  The boy is really into tic-tac-toe right now, so I made cookie game boards and cookie game pieces for everyone in his class. All six of them. Each kid got one board and 10 game pieces. When I got ready to bag them it was dark. And I couldn't find my camera.  And it was dark.  I was very frustrated by my inability to take a decent picture. Like, not gonna blog anymore frustrated.  I need some natural light, people. It's dark at 5:30. OK, whinefest over. Sorry you had to see that. The girl wanted happy candy corns.  I told her no tic-tac-toe for her class because th...

Zombie Candy Corn Cookies

Image
I admit it, I was completely out of ideas for fall/Halloween cookies.  So I made zombie candy corns.  I think I just took corny to a whole 'nother level. Then I did some little spiderwebs with spiders. Because I saw some spiderweb cookies at www.cookiedecorator.com that were adorable, awesome, and amazing.  So I had to make a bad copy. Anyhoo, I boxed these up and shipped them off to Afghanistan for Operation Cookie Takeover II.  Operation Cookie Takeover has a Facebook page, if you want to check it out.  I don't Facebook, so I can't provide a link or anything. That's all I've got for now. Still been crazy around here. Even when I do bake, I don't have time to take pictures.  But Christmas cookie season is fast approaching, so I have high hopes for future blog posts. That's all for now. Enjoy!

Belated Halloween Cookies

Image
I made these cookies in time for Halloween, but I did not upload the pictures in time.  *sigh* You may recognize these cookies from two posts ago.  They are the Wilton monster/alien set from last year.  I made some for my boss, then I decided I liked them so much that I wanted to make some more.  Again, I stuck with the design on the box.  They were cute. And easy.  A perfect combo. As you can see on the spider, I did play around with eyes.  I made some royal icing transfer eyes in different colors, and I piped some directly onto the cookies.  I can't decide which ones I like best. When piping direcly onto the cookie, be sure to leave room for a little spread between they eyes, or they will run together.  Not that I would know anything about that. I think this is my favorite picture from this batch. Does that make me weird?  Don't answer that. And more of the super-easy green slime cookies.  Or maybe ...

3-D Spiders

Image
Happy Halloween! The Bearfoot Baker made 3-D spider cookies a couple weeks ago, and I decided I had to make them for the boy's Harvest Party.  Then someone decided that the kids would decorate their own cookies at the party instead.  I was left with a broken heart and a pile of icing transfer spider legs.  (OK, not really on the broken heart part.) So I made three spider cookies just to see if I could.  They turned out ok. My dots were a little runny, so it doesn't look like a bumpy spider, just a blobby one.  But the kids really enjoyed eating them.  And they played rock, paper, scissors for the spider half of the third one.  (I know, what was I thinking...three cookies...two kids...)  The girl won.  She was quite excited. Anyhoo, I may make them again another time.  The boy really, really thought they were cool.  I will post one last batch of Halloween cookies later.  I was slow in uploading pictures. En...

Boss' Day Halloween Cookies

Image
Last November I found the Wilton monster/alien(?) cookie cutter set on clearance, so I picked it up. But then I had to wait a whole year to use it.  D'oh! Anyhoo, I made a set for Boss' Day because I just started a new job and I'm not really sure what my new boss likes, other than Fallout 3, and I really didn't feel like making Deathclaw cookies. I iced these on the very day that I was going to take them to work.  Lucky for me I work second shift.  But they were in my oven drying until the very second before I left for work.  And then they weren't completely dry, but just dry enough to gently put on a plate and cover in plastic wrap. Except for the plaque, I just did these like they were on the Wilton box.  Super-creative, I know.  (I was in a hurry.) I bumped, smeared and cracked this cookie about 5 times.  Don't look to closely at the icing under the eyballs.  And the writing icing was a little runny.  So what I'm really ...

Purple Pumpkin Monster Cookies...and More

Image
These are last years' Halloween cookies.  I was playing around with colors and eyeballs and this is what I came up with. I think they came out kind of cute. I was also playing around with the square monster cookies that have been going around.  They were fun.  And no fancy cutters required! I did these with glaze, and the green especially got a bad case of sugar bloom.  I'm really not sure why.  I've use the same recipe for YEARS, and, suddenly, with no warning, I start getting sugar bloom.  I was frustrated.  And it kept happening.  In fact, I have essentially stopped using glaze because of it.  It's sad, really. I kind of liked these pumpkins, too.  Just a little bit different. Anyhoo, I hope you like the cookies. I have not started any Halloween/fall cookies so far this year.  I got the Wilton mad scientist cutter set last year, and I really want to try them out.  Time permitting, I will do that soo...
