OK, so not so much flag cakes galore as two flag cakes. One for a friend: That is one ugly tablecloth. And one for a family picnic: And of course, the inside. It worked out a little better this year because I made them smaller and was able to use a 4" cookie cutter to cut the middle out of the blue cake. Much easier than trying to cut a circle with a template and a knife. Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Cookies, cookies and more cookies! I've been busy decorating cookies and it's been great! Unfortunately, I'm not so good a taking pictures and posting them. So last month was another Operation Cookie Takeover . I sent a couple dozen cookies out. Various shapes in patriotic colors. Had I been thinking clearly, I would have made red white and blue Peeps cookies since it was around Easter-time. Maybe next year. As usual I forgot to take pictures until after I bagged them.  *sigh* Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Operation Cookie Takeover struck again! Here was my offering this time around. I sent a total of 2 dozen, and I totally stole most of the ideas off the internet. But it was for a good cause, right? Oh yeah, OCT finally got a website!  Because I refuse to Facebook that makes me happy! www.operationcookietakeover.sammiebssweets.com Pop on over and either submit a soldier or volunteer to make cookies for next time. :-) Hubby insisted on the 'Merica cookies. They suit our sense of humor. It was my first shot at piping bunting.  I imagine I could have found a tutorial online, but I didn't.  I'll just have to practice and get it right. Saw the dog tag cookies from last OCT, and had to make my own version. I really like these. Well, that's all for today. Enjoy!

We successfully completed our juice fast!  Well, me more than hubby.  He may have dropped out a day or so early.  But it was still a big accomplishment! And what better way to celebrate the end of a juice fast than with making giant birthday cake that you can't eat because you're trying to stay healthy!? My dad turned 65, so Grandma threw him a party!  I brought the cake.  And a lemon meringue pie.  The cake was served at the party.  The pie was not. Dad's favorite is chocolate cake, so I made a giant chocolate cake.  Only, because it's me, I had to do a little something extra.  So the bottom tier wasn't chocolate at all. It was a flag cake!  Sorry for the hacked up picture. The slices themselves were perfectly flaggy.  But I didn't get any pictures of those. Of course. For the flag cake I used this recipe from Sweetapolita . I actually make the cake recipe four times. Each recipe filled a 10-inch cake tin about perf...

This will just be a quick post to show the cookies I did for Memorial Day.  Just a little early this time. I was taking pictures while running out the door, so please excuse the photo quality. This was the best of the collection.  Please don't judge me too harshly. One of the ladies over at  www.cookiedecorator.com , Tasha, is presently deployed in Afghanistan.  One day she posted to the forum and asked if anyone would be willing to send some cookies to her to pass out to her troops (I'm paraphrasing, bear with me).  Anyhoo, the response was quite favorable. Some members were going to send supplies so Tasha could do a cookie decorating demonstration. Many others were going to send cookies for the troops.   At first the goal was 1000 cookies.  People started referring to it, jokingly, as Operation Cookie Takeover. Then one of the other ladies set up a Facebook  page.  At last count there were over 11,000 cookies pledged.  Pretty cool, huh?  They're going to have media exposure, a cookie decorating contest and enough cookies to had out to troops in all of the outlying areas.  Cookie people are awesome! So we've experienced a busy week.  The power was out for a few days...on the week we decided to play hookey from work...good times.  After the power came back on we took the kids to an amusement park, which was a hugely popular decision.  In the ensuing days we went to an historical farm, grilled out in the back yard, treated Daddy's sunburn, went to a parade, made popcorn and watched Goonies...it's been a fun-filled week. All that excitement meant that I was not anywhere near the computer for most of the week.  Which means I didn't post my 4th of July cookies.  So, without further ado, here they are!
