Fall Sugar Cookies

Decorated sugar cookies for fall! Leaves, pumpkins, apples, and sunflowers. I saw a couple different versions of the trees on Pinterest and decided to give them a go. I think the trees sort of pulled them all together. Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Classic Apple Crisp

Hello! Am I too late for a fall apple recipe? It's only January, after all. We've had lots going on here in the D-oh household...so much so that blogging has kind of taken a back seat. Nothing earth-shattering, unfortunately, just life happening. Back in November I found this amazing apple crisp recipe on Pinterest. It think it may be the best apple crisp I've ever had. And I've made plenty of crisps over the years. Best of all, it's a really easy recipe! Good for a quick dessert when you don't have a lot of time to invest. Start by tossing 9 or 10 peeled, sliced apples with some sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and salt. Put the apples into a greased 9 x 13 baking dish. Next, mix some brown sugar, oats, and flour in a bowl; cut in some cold butter, then sprinkle it over the apple mixture. I made mine gluten-free. (We have some family members who have gone gluten-free, so I'm trying to learn some new recipes along with adapting old on...

Fall Cookie Pops

Welcome to another post about last year's cookies! I made these for the boy's harvest party at school last year.  Do you like how I messed up the candy corn?  Its white, orange, yellow, not white, yellow, orange.  Just so you know. They were fun.  I played around with the mouths and the faces.  I did some upside down.  And when they were dry I put them in baggies and tied them with ribbon, just to be that way.  But best of all, I got to do this... I pre-made royal icing eyeballs for the very first time.  It was fun and easy.  And when they were dry, I put them in a container, put them on top of my microwave and my children somehow knocked them down and got eyeballs all over my kitchen.  For weeks I couldn't walk through the kitchen without looking down and seeing a lone eyeball staring up at me from some far-flung corner.  No matter how much I swept, they kept turning up.  In fact, I found one last week....

Purple Pumpkin Monster Cookies...and More

Image
These are last years' Halloween cookies.  I was playing around with colors and eyeballs and this is what I came up with. I think they came out kind of cute. I was also playing around with the square monster cookies that have been going around.  They were fun.  And no fancy cutters required! I did these with glaze, and the green especially got a bad case of sugar bloom.  I'm really not sure why.  I've use the same recipe for YEARS, and, suddenly, with no warning, I start getting sugar bloom.  I was frustrated.  And it kept happening.  In fact, I have essentially stopped using glaze because of it.  It's sad, really. I kind of liked these pumpkins, too.  Just a little bit different. Anyhoo, I hope you like the cookies. I have not started any Halloween/fall cookies so far this year.  I got the Wilton mad scientist cutter set last year, and I really want to try them out.  Time permitting, I will do that soo...
