Mommy to Bee Decorated Sugar Cookies

Image
Made for a friend's daughter's baby shower. The theme was Mommy to Bee. These aren't colors I use regularly, but it was nice to do something different! There was a lot of black and some of the designs were wet-on-wet, so I made the icing with extra meringue powder, just in case. I've heard that extra meringue powder will stop bleeding. (Of course, for my regular royal icing recipe I've halved the amount of meringue powder I use, so really it was just the normal amount.) But whatever the reason, it worked! There was no bleeding black icing, even with the white polka dots. All bagged up and ready to go! I really have to start taking pictures before they're in the bags. I think that's all of them. I'm going to be making more cookies in the next couple weeks, so hopefully I'll actually get them posted to the ol' blog. Maybe. Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Teal, Yellow, and Gray Baby Shower Cookies

Image
A friend had a baby shower and I got to bring cookies and cupcakes! We were very excited for her, as this baby has been a long time coming. Unfortunately, I got ZERO good photos of the cookies. And I mean ZERO-er than normal. Made some onesies... Some bottles, rattles and bibs...  A plaque or two... And then I also made some cupcakes! I used my usual go-to chocolate cake, plus some white to go with them. Half the chocolate cupcakes were filled with dulce du leche (the ones with the dollops on top) and half of the white cupcakes were filled with lemon curd (also with the dollops on top). They were pretty darn tasty. Again, not a good photo, but you get the idea. They're cupcakes. :-) The little one arrived a few weeks ago and mom and dad couldn't be happier! Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Baby Feet Cookies

Image
I really don't get the baby feet cookie thing. I guess it's just not my bag. But people ask for cookies, and I aim to please. :-) I was rushing and didn't get a good picture. Again. I make more cookies than what I post here. The problem is by the time I'm done making them, I don't feel like taking pictures. I need an on-call photographer. Who makes house calls. Anyhoo, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Rubber Ducky Birthday Cake

Image
This year the girl wanted a ducky cake for her birthday. She didn't really have a reason, just that she wanted ducks. I think she was trying to copy her brother's turtle cake without being too obvious about it. So I found a ducky cake on Pinterest and shamelessly copied it. She was quite pleased. I took the leftovers to work and people kept asking who was having a baby. Because, really, it's a baby shower cake. But, hey, it made her happy. Especially the giant sunglasses-wearing rubber ducky on top. It lights up. Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Pink and Green Baby Shower Cookies

Image
Pink and green baby shower cookies. It's a girl! I actually haven't been blogging because I haven't been taking pictures. These were e-mailed to me from the party. Maybe someday I'll get a good camera and learn how to use it. But probably not. Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Baby Girl Shower Cake

Image
One of my coworkers is about to give birth, so we threw her a surprise baby shower. Guess who volunteered to bring cake? I made it to match the napkins. Chocolate cake, of course. Here's a close-up of the bow (in a box and sitting on a non-skid mat for transport): For some reason, I really, really like making fondant bows. I think it's because I loved Play Doh so much as a child. The bow was also sprinkled liberally with disco dust. Sparkly! Here we are spread out over the filing cabinets. And there are the napkins! Another coworker made a diaper cake and topped it with the cutest shoes ever: Anyhoo, it was a fun time.  Lots of food and fun to break up the day. That's all for now. Enjoy!

Cupcakes Galore!

Image
This weekend was all about cupcakes.  I made 40 of of them for a baby shower, plus 24 cake pops, which doesn't sound like much until I tell you there were 6 flavors. Strawberry... Red Velvet... Vanilla Almond... Chocolate... Cookies & Cream... And vanilla, strawberry and lemon (flavor #6) cake pops...which I forgot to photograph.  But they were adorable. Unfortunately, no matter how you do the math, 40 cupcakes do not fit evenly into 48 cupcake holders.  But I do love these cupcake boxes (is it still a box if it's plastic?) that hold 2 dozen.  They sell them at the local cake shop.  And they make me look like I know what I'm doing. (True story...I took a cake to work about 15 years ago for a birthday and one of my co-workers absolutely REFUSED to believe that I made the cake. Not because it was awesome or beautiful or amazing, because it wasn't, but because it was in a bakery box.  Which I purchased at the above-r...

More Baby Cookies

One of my co-workers is expecting a new little girl.  What better way to celebrate than with cookies? Well, that's all for now.  Enjoy!

It's A Girl! Cookies

Image
My brother and his wife just added baby #4 to their family!  So I made cookies!  And then I took crummy pictures because we were in a hurry to get out the door!  Go me! And here are some close-ups: Vanilla-lemon sugar cookies with vanilla-lemon royal icing.  Quite yummy. Enjoy!

Baby Shower Cake

Image
Just a generic boy shower cake for a girl at work that I don't know.  :-)  I get volunteered for lots of stuff.  Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate fondant bow and accents.  Enjoy!

Hand Made Burp Cloths

Image
Ok, these are not baked goods, but they're cute, so I'm going to post them anyway.  Two ladies at church are getting ready to be new moms, so I made some burp cloths as shower gifts.  The pirates are for a boy (obviously), and the Winnie the Poohs are for a gender unknown. :-)  They're pretty easy to make.  You need some prefold diapers (Gerber will do, although I would never use a Gerber diaper as an ACTUAL diaper...and we used cloth diapers on the girl), a little flannel, some ribbon and some lace.  I can usually get 8 burp cloths out of half a yard of fabric.  And if you're only buying half a yard, you don't feel so bad about getting more expensive fabric.  :-) They give a lot of coverage.  Personally, I love to use them. I am not an expert seamstress by any stretch of the imagination, but if you can sew a straight line, you can make these.  Free tip of the day: Grossgrain ribbon is much easier to deal...
