Valentine Love Birds

Image
The girl saw the Valentine Love Birds floating around the interwebs and decided she needed them for her class Valentine's Day party. (Yes, I do realize it's almost summer.) Her teacher is (was) gluten-free, so I made them with gluten-free ingredients. They tasted pretty good. And they were cute. I kept asking the girl if she wanted the birds to be pink and blue instead of the original white and blue, but she insisted they be exactly like the photos. I don't know if I got them exactly, but they're pretty close. And I got to use my new(ish) petal dust palette on the cheeks. Well, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Late Valentine Cookies

Image
I didn't make these until after Valentine's Day.  But I made them! I'm still on the turquoise kick from Christmas. Only this time I added a little Americolor Sky Blue to brighten it up a little.  I'm quite pleased with the results. I got to indulge my weird obsession for wet-on-wet decoration. Then I did some simple piping. Because I'm all about simple. Started to so some more complicated designs, but petered out after the first coats. And tried a fancy camera angle. Not really, but whatever. Anyhoo, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Valentine Snail Cookies and Other Nonsense

Image
You heard me.  Valentine. Snails. It's what happens when you let a 9 year old boy choose the Valentine cookies. I guess they came out kind of cute.  They don't look like snails to me, though. But I also made some other wet-on-wet cookies.  Regular Valentine cookies. I kind of liked them. So I put some on a cake. There may have been disco dust involved. But that's the last of the Valentine cookies...sorry they're late.  Google Chrome has decided I'm not allowed to blog anymore, so I had to go back to Internet Explorer.  Yay.  Technology rules! That's all for now. Enjoy!

Valentine Lace Cookies

Image
Well, over at Cookiers R Us, the monthly cookie challenge theme was lace, so I made some lace Valentine's Day cookies! And some regular Valentine's Day cookies.  Because the lace ones took a really, really long time. This one was kind of cool.  The red icing was a little too thick, so it stayed elevated instead of sinking into a grid. Anyhoo, here's some of the others... More to come in a few days. Enjoy!

Giveaway Cookies

Image
Here are the cookies I sent to Roxanne for the giveaway.  Valentine hearts. Unfortunately, my oven was giving me trouble, and I think at least half of them, maybe more, were crunchy instead of soft. I didn't notice right away because I have a Maytag Gemini (double oven), and only the top oven is on the fritz. I was not amused. Roxanne, if you're reading, I'm going to send you some replacements to make up for these. Well, that's all for today. Enjoy!

Valentine Robots

Image
Valentine Robots via SweetSugarBelle! Her tutorial is here.   I did mine a little differently because every time I outline sections with icing, you can see the outlines when I'm done.  Totally bums me out. So I did it this way: It worked for me.  And I didn't spray them with the luster spray because I forgot to buy some.  D'oh! Anyhoo, I bagged them up and I'll be sending them to school with the boy on Valentine's Day.  Because he was very excited to see Valentine cookies that weren't all sappy and pink and girly. That's all for now. Enjoy!

Sketch It Challenge!

Image
Time for another cookie challenge from Georganne over at LilaLoa!  This month is the sketch it challenge .  Unfortunately, I have very little actual artistic talent.  And what talent I do have tends to lean more toward sculpting/forming items.  But, it's a challenge, so I gave it a go. Ironically, just a couple weeks before the challenge was issued, I sketched this picture in response to a thread over at www.cookiedecorator.com: That's a bottle of Super Red, with a sad bottle of Tulip Red in the background.  (I thought it was funny.) But I didn't want to make a cookie out of that sketch.  So I made some new sketches: The birds up at the top were inspired by a child's shirt I saw at a store.  I thought the bird on the shirt looked like it might fit inside a heart cutter.  And it did.  WooHoo!  Although, I should have taken a picture of the shirt.  It would have meant less agonizing over the tails, when I couldn't rememb...

Bee My Valentine

Image
These were cookies I made for the boy's class two years ago, I believe.  Aren't they cute? They're bees.  Made from a heart cutter. How smart is that?  (I can say that because it wasn't my idea.) Inspired by  A Master Creation  and put on sticks for the kids.  Because kids like things more if they're on sticks. Red for the boys... Pink for the girls... I also made a giant Queen Bee for the teacher, but I forgot to take a picture.  Go me! And here are some others that I made for my sister-in-law's birthday the same year. I love Valentine cookies.  I'm going to get started on this years' soon, but for now, this is all I've got. Enjoy!

Valentine Owl Cookies

Image
I started thinking about what kind of cookies I was going to make for Valentine's Day a few weeks ago.  I didn't want anything too super-girly because I was going to send them to school with the boy for their Valentine's Day party.  Well, his teacher decided not to do a whole party this year.  They're going to make ice cream sundaes and exchange Valentines instead.  That took some pressure off of me, but I still wanted to make the cookies I had planned.  So I did. Just not as many as orignally anticipated.  And there is the finished product.  Owls!  I have seen owls all over the web lately.  I guess they're a big trend right now.  Most of the owl cookies I see are made using a tulip cutter.  Well, that's all well and good, but then the owls don't have tails.  And every owl I've ever seen has a tail.  So I flipped the tulip cutter upside down and cut a scoop out of the top.  Like so: That allowed me to make t...
